With a variety of delicious foods and drinks to cater for all tastes and appetites from a simple sandwich to a four course formal dinner.
Open seven days a week from 10am daily, Soda & Starch Pantry and Grill serves: breakfast and brunch; coffee and scones; lunch classics including pies and pasta; daily specials; healthy and hearty soups and sandwiches. In the evenings, from Wednesday to Saturday, we specialise in seafood, steaks and good old fashioned comfort food.
The rationale behind Soda & Starch was to recreate an eatery in the style of an Irish kitchen and pantry. Somewhere that serves great Irish food, created from locally sourced produce in unpretentious surroundings. Embracing the traditions of home baking and cooking so when you open the door … the amazing aroma will transport you back in time to your childhood and your granny’s house!
When setting about designing a menu the underlying ingredients which emerged time and time again where Irish staples, the “soda” element from baking and “starch” from potatoes … and so “Soda & Starch” was established!
The location in the heart of Derry’s Craft Village oozes character, warmth and hospitality creating the perfect backdrop for Soda & Starch’s traditional culinary experience. When you step into the Craft Village the strong connection with local culture is apparent and the traditional influences throughout our menus complement this hidden gem within the Walled City.
Ciaran O’Neill is a well-known face in tourism and hospitality circles in the city and opened the highly successful and critically acclaimed Bishop’s Gate Hotel in 2016. His passion and commitment to delivering a top class product with equally excellent service makes Soda & Starch an exciting prospect and one to watch!
A native of the City, Raymond Moran is an accomplished chef who is committed to the ethos of using locally and ethically sourced high quality produce. His culinary style epitomises rustic, traditional home cooking incorporating big, bold flavours, with a modern twist. With an undeniable forte for seafood, his skill in creating these dishes he attributes to his proximity to Greencastle and the abundance of stunning, fresh produce from our local shores.
With a wealth of experience Raymond has previously headed up restaurants including Oysters and Harry’s in Bridgend, Donegal and is excited to embark upon this new venture in his home town.
